Continental Divide Trail DIVIDE AND CONQUER
Conquer the Divide
May 12th, 2002 - Someday.... Welcome to the MOS's Continental Divide Trail Page. Here you will find the most up-to-date information available on our attempt to hike the entire US section of the Continental Divide. You can use the interactive map to get information on specific sections of the trail which we have hiked or will soon be hiking. OUR MISSION Back in late 1999, James and Matt started playing with the idea of backpacking the entire United States section of the Continental Divide Trail. That's about 3000 miles, from Antelope Wells, New Mexico, to Glacier National Park, Montana. The Divide rises and falls precipitously on its journey along some of the most beautiful mountain terrain on the continent, and the call of the highlands was hard to ignore. There was just this one little problem: None of us could afford the 8 months away from loved ones and jobs, in terms of time or money. So, being the desperate souls we are, we decided that we would find a way to make it work. And so we came upon the idea of doing the trail in 1 to 2 week sections, once or twice a year, for however many years it takes, until we complete it. We may be finishing the trail, in Glacier National Park, with our children at our side. But is that so bad? We will be starting with the southernmost section, in southwest New Mexico, and we will end at Glacier National Park in Montana. But the sections between will be completed somewhat at random, or based on sections that are most complete first. Some sections will be 2 weeks, but most will be only a week. Distances, levels of difficulty, amount of solitude and altitude ranges will vary by location. But one thing nearly the entire trail provides is spectacular scenery. Trips Completed and Coming Soon For details on what sections have been completed, you can go to the Interactive Map page, to get a geographical perspective. You can also see pictures and journals from any of the MOS-X-XX trips on the Diaries and Images page.
