BUSINESS STATEMENT

Updated 09/17/2003

The following is important information regarding Middle of Somewhere Expeditions (Herein referred to as MOS), its Board of Advisors (herein referred to as the Board), trips it organizes, this web site, and any and all related events, responsibilities and actions.

MIDDLE OF SOMEWHERE EXPEDITIONS
MOS is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1992 (formerly named Horizons Unlimited), made up ad hoc of six volunteer 'Advisors'. While in the field or while involved in any transportation to and/or from such expeditions, these advisors differ from the other participants in and on the expeditions only in that they voluntarily provide limited, basic equipment, advice based on experience only, and organization for the purpose of making the expeditions move more efficiently. They are not paid, directly or indirectly, for their services or the use of said equipment.

The only money that is paid in by all participants that does not go to costs directly related to expenses for the trips goes into an equipment fund. Money from that fund is used to purchase new equipment for use only on these expeditions, as well as to cover costs associated directly with this website.

All references to costs and amounts to be paid for described activities are subject to change without notice, and at the sole discretion of MOS or the Board. Participants in these trips are invited to do so in a purely social context, and the final decision as to who may participate rests solely with the Board, and is not subject to review or appeal.

EXPEDITIONS
Participants on these trips, as of this time, are invited to do so in a social, mutual-interest context, by a member of the Board, or by a previous participant, with the approval of the Board. All financial, physical, legal and general responsibility rests solely on each participant individually. Participants recognize that there are inherent elements of risk involved in participating in outdoor activities and, knowing the inherent risks, and rigors required of such activities, participants assume full responsibility for personal injury or death and for loss or damage to their property, including such as may result from the negligence of others. Participants therefore agree to release and waive any and all claims against MOS and any individuals, including those referenced in this web site.

The expeditions organized by MOS range in difficulty from easy to highly strenuous. It is important that each person who chooses to attend these expeditions be in at least average physical and mental shape, suffering from no conditions of any type that may put them or others at unusual risk of harm. While on said expeditions, participants may be at high levels of exposure, resulting in physical or emotional harm, to numerous hazards, natural and non-natural. The advisors will and do take every reasonable precaution in organizing and implementing the trips organized by MOS, and do everything possible to insure the safety and well being of everyone involved. No promises or guarantees are made, expressed or implied, by MOS, the Board, or anyone else involved in these trips.

THE FUTURE
MOS is a private organization. However, the Board is taking steps to explore the possibility of allowing the general public to attend MOS's trips, sometime in the future. Though we do not anticipate doing so within the next year, we are attempting to ascertain how much interest there would be in the public, in participating in these trips. All visitors to this site are encouraged to carefully assess what is presented, and are welcome to make comments, suggestions, questions or concerns, whether or not they are interested in future trips.
